We have gone through so much change since the World Wide Web began in the 1990s. Web has evolved from Web 1.0-Web 3.0, and even Web 4.0, but what will the future of the internet be?
There are predictions on the future of the internet and I will share some interesting ones here. Firstly, with the smart phones and netbooks readily available that allows easy access to the Web, we might just anticipate for our cars, refrigerator, TV, and other appliances to be connected to a global network, communicating wirelessly! I read an interesting article that tells of an Internet refrigerator that manages the pantry and sends a shopping list to local supermarkets and sets a convenient delivery time for the consumers! Imagine that happening, we would be freed from the traditional grocery shopping and everything will be hassle free!
Enough of talking about predictions that are a step away from future to present! I shall share some amusing and quirky predictions that I’ve found.
Check this out!
I think this is good! Especially if content shown is relevant, like cooking shows or cookbook that lists down ingredients and cooking methods for dishes. This can trigger homemakers who are not so tech savvy start to get involved with the internet and the powerful search engines!
There are of course endless predictions of the future of the internet but we’ll never get them right until they happen! I guarantee it won’t be a long wait!

Social Networking Sites
Needless to say, we all know what the logos stand for!
If you know, you must have come from mars and you don’t own or don’t know what a hand phone or computer is!
Answers (Left to right):
Facebook, Twitter, Friendster
With so many new social networking sites, we are spoilt for choices! But I believe that the current trend now is Facebook. Everyone I know has a Facebook account, even my father has one! The plus point for Facebook is the never-ending applications and games that we can use or play for free! We can also check out on how our friends are doing by looking at their wall and profiles! I bet many of us spend at least a couple of hours of Facebook daily.
Besides the fun social networking sites on the Internet, we also have online communities that usually voice their opinions in forums, or find people of the same interest or hobbies there. I find online forums very useful, especially before I travelled to Bangkok in Mid-March. There were news of protests and chaos in Bangkok and I went to the TripAdvisor Forum to check out on the news. Travelers that were there, as well as Thais who reside in Bangkok gave assurances and updates on the protests which I find very helpful and true, unlike the exaggerated news we see on TV and on the newspapers.
Okay, bejeweled time in Facebook for now!

Journalism and the Internet
Journalism and Internet
My dad came home with his new gadget, the Iphone, and proudly showed me the first application he downloaded; The Straits Times. The world of traditional media is changing, with more people browsing websites and online articles/news for information. The question is, is it beneficial or harmful to us?
There are of course 2 sides of the story. People who think that the Internet is helping Journalism thinks that it is an alternative way for us to read news without having the need to spend like how we did on traditional news, and people who think that the Internet is actually hurting Journalism tends to feel that the Internet blurs the line between facts and opinions and that we are sometimes confused and may take opinions as facts.
What say you?

Politics and internet
Okay this is going to be a short post because I aint exactly a fan of politics. No, even though I am an avid user of the internet, I’m not even into the politics in the USA that has become very active these days on the Web.
The NY times said that both the Democrats and Republicans have increased the use of email, interactive websites, blogs and text-messaging to raise money and organize get-out-of-the-vote efforts and assemble crowds for rallies.
Indeed, the Internet is a cheaper alternative as compared to the traditional ways of politics. I like Podcasts where we can actually feel and hear the candidate so as to understand and know them better. But then again, I don’t think that is going to happen in Singapore in near future (at least 10 years?), but oh well, it’s just my guess, and we’ll never know till the day comes.

Internet Security
Seriously, every time I get on MSN, I see many of my friends sending me such messages asking me to enter the phishing sites, may it be for weight loss or free gadgets like IPhone or whatsoever, and it is pissing me off big time! I’d then start thinking to myself, are my friends really that stupid to have clicked on the phishing sites hence getting the virus or what actually happened because almost a quarter of them are spamming me with such messages!
Until one fine day my friend took a screenshot of what I sent and showed me, and yeah it is very embarrassing because I have also become a spammer! One of my friend explained to me that we do not certainly have to click on the websites to start spamming people with such messages because our accounts have actually been hacked into! My friend then suggested that I change my password and voila! No one complained about me being a spammer anymore!
There are many different types of viruses around, like Trojan, Spyware, Adware and Worms. Some are very dangerous, while some are mild and does not do much harm to our computers but still, it is best for us to have an updated anti-virus software like Norton Antivirus (Very popular in Singapore) to keep our computers safe and secured!
Lastly, I am going to talk about internet security in the context of online shopping. I think that online shopping has become very popular nowadays, and this also increased the chances of us getting cheated! We should always purchase something on a safe and secured site by checking out for the locked padlock at the top/ bottom of the page before releasing our personal or credit card information. Otherwise, we can also choose to use secured payment methods like DBS IBanking, UOB IBanking or Paypal. To ensure that the merchant is real and reliable, we can check reviews or feedbacks on the merchant’s page!

Making a movie clip
Don’t remind me please. My group spent 2 days (and night) to complete a project that required us to design a website with Dreamweaver in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Dreamweaver isn’t that difficult, but Flash Player is a bother! I can never seem to get the clips right; either the timing screws up or my movie doesn’t show up! There are actually many ways to make a movie clip! I’ve tried using iMovie on Mac to edit the video that I filmed and I think it’s much easier as compared to Flash Player! iMovie allows easy loading on Youtube and many other websites as well! But of course, we have to film a video with a camcorder first (DUH!), before editing, cutting and putting the edits all together! It’s pretty fun, really!
Gosh,
I’m tired, gonna hit the sack,
Good night!

E-learning
In my opinion, E-learning and Virtual Education is educating students using advanced technologies such as the internet, through video conferencing and multimedia tools like Window Media Player or Real Player and so on. I have been exposed to E-learning back then in 2005, when I was studying in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, whereby I had what we are having now in UB; the ublearns webpage where we can access lectures notes and readings on the E-learning site.
But, I’ve also been hearing about Virtual Universities whereby everything is communicated and taught via the internet from the teachers to the students, but honestly I don’t know if they really do exist.
However, if they do exist, I don’t really think they will work out well! As a communication student, I’ve learnt that communication is not just plain talking, communication is everything; verbal, non-verbal, written, signals, signs, and so on! I would suggest that Virtual Education exist to complement the traditional classroom education to make education more interesting and helpful.

Online Business & E-commerce
Online business and E-commerce is kinda different from an actual business, and I will explain it from my own point of view here.
Anyway, I feel happy and excited to see this topic because I find this an opportunity for free advertisement!
Please visit http://www.blackdollhouse.blogspot.com/ and give me some support people!

An image on how the blogshop looks like:
Rules & Regulations:
It's good write down what you prefer/expect from the transactions/deals so the customers can try to accommodate to your needs and preference.
This can also minimize misunderstandings.
Feedbacks/Comments:
It's also good to get some feedbacks on your services, so you'll know what you need to improve on, and what you need to maintain.
Customers can click on this column and leave a feedback easily!
Traffic Flow:
I think its essential to keep track of the traffic flow on the blogshop so that we can work on how to improve the marketing and advertising of the shop.
Details of items:
Images are definitely needed, duh!
I tend to give the 3 different views, front, side and back, as well as a close up if there is minute details on the item.
Item numbers, e.g. Item #16 in this case will be given, and I also name the items in case there is a mix up in the item numbers.
Colors avaialble will be stated, e.g. (State Peach/Black/White/Pink/Blue)
Status of the item must be included so customers will know if the item is still available!
Last but not least, include your contact so the customers can get back to you!
I am kiasu so I included my contact not once but twice!
That's all for the work on the blog, but thats not all for the work elsewhere!
I still do advertising on facebook by creating a group page and send message to members whenever there is a new collection launched.
Oh,
I forgot to mention about the photo taking part!
Sometimes I'll ask my friend who has a home-based studio at her place, to help me with the photo-taking, or I will head down to external studios and rent their place at SGD 40-50 per hour!
Okay,
got to run!
Please please support my blogshop at http://www.blackdollhouse.blogspot.com/!

RSS.
Omg, I cannot believe that the founder(s) of RSS actually named RSS as “Really Simple Syndication”! It’s pretty funny I must say! I just checked my personal blog and even though I’ve been blogging since 2006, and that the RSS orange logo is familiar, I never knew that what made blogging that simple was actually RSS feed format!
Okay, to end this entry I will show a video from Youtube that is very popular (I bet) with students taking COM 125 and everyone else who is keen to learn more about RSS! Here you go!

Web 1.0 vs 2.0
Web 1.0 consists of mostly read-only web whereas Web 2.0 is the wildly read-write web. Web 1.0 has 1-way communication from publisher to reader, and Web 2.0 has 2-way communication from publisher to reader, and feedback from reader to publisher, and that everyone can actually be a publisher!
